Christian Help for Illness
Using God's Anxiety Cure to Deal With Fear, Mental & Physical Pain
Although anxiety, depression, and panic attacks are often associated with emotional problems and symptoms, they can also come together with (or be the result of) physical illnesses and pain.
As an example, receiving bad news from a medical professional can certainly throw you into an emotional tailspin. Receiving a diagnosis like diabetes, cancer, liver disease, heart disease, or even a brain tumor can cause you to experience a number of different fears and apprehensions. In fact, those who didn't suffer anxiety or depression before the diagnosis can develop these problems in a short period of time.
Not only is the fear of physical illness and pain draining, but the symptoms associated with the disease or ailment can cause emotional distress, too. Often, a serious diagnosis is followed by many long and painful tests, not to mention the stressful waiting periods while you hope for the right results. Just as with overcoming anxiety and depression, this is another area where renewing your mind and spirit is critical. Remember during these times that Jesus has promised to never leave or forsake us. He is always right there beside you to strengthen you and encourage you. The more you read His word, the closer you will feel to Him, and the more peace you can find in your mind and spirit. Jesus can calm the storm that is raging in your life, but you have to accept Him, trust His guidance, and meditate on His word.
Dealing With Terminal Illnesses and Fear
When you are diagnosed with a serious and potentially life-threatening disease, the thought that you are going to die may begin to bombard your mind.
The Bible reminds us in Psalm 118:17, "You shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord." In other words, Satan can only try to defeat you with fear in this life. Jesus has already died for your sins, and that victory is final. So long as you hold on to your faith in Him, nothing can be taken away.
No one wants to receive bad news from a doctor, or have someone that they love affected by a serious illness. No piece of news or medical report could ever compare to the good news about God's love, however, and strengthening your spirit with Scripture is the best way to get through a tough time, focus on your faith, and move closer to God.
How to Stop Illness From Eroding Your Faith
Christians aren't immune to diseases and physical problems, or from the emotional distress that comes with them. When dealing with these kinds of troubles, it's not unusual to cry hysterically, or to experience anxiety so severe that you pace the floor constantly, or want to lie in bed. You could be bombarded with thoughts that make you question God, or wonder why this is happening to you. In fact, you might even wonder, since you thought you were a good Christian, why you're being punished, or how you failed miserably to have this sickness come upon you. Remember that these are lies told by Satan, designed to trick you and weaken your faith.
The Bible tells us that rain falls on the just and unjust alike, and being saved by Jesus makes you an even bigger target for the devil. Just remember that your ultimate reward is in heaven. As Psalms 34:19 says, "Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all."
Don't let Satan take away your faith no matter what kind of physical and emotional pains you might be experiencing. Your God and His love are so much stronger than the temporary troubles of this world.
How Faith Conquers All Anxiety and Distress
Pain, fear, and anxiety are all real, but they are also temporary emotions that are tied to this world... and obstacles that you can overcome when you trust in God. Remember that the essence of faith isn't in what you see, but in what you trust in God's word. James 1:22 reminds us that we must be doers of the word, and not hearers only. We are already healed by Jesus, it's just up to us to accept it and embrace His love. When your spirit is strong and you have faith in God, every other part of your life will be strengthened, too, including your mind and your physical body.
When pain and anxiety are holding you back, look to 1 Peter 2:24, which says, "Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness; by his stripes we are healed."
